In a recent USA Today article, savvy entrepreneurs shared their favorite apps that have improved life around the office. From word processors, to accounting tools, to business card scanners, the iPad is slowly replacing the laptop with some small business owners.

File-sharing programs like Box, Dropbox and SugarSync have made it increasingly easier to stay connected to the office, while working abroad. Apps like Skype and Line 2 turn the iPad into a phone, allowing conference call capability for upwards of 20 people.

According to Yankee Group analyst Carl Howe, the iPad hosts the largest number of productivity apps for tablets, well beyond Android, Microsoft and Research In Motion’s BlackBerry.

The key for app developers and computer manufacturers is to ease the transition from PC to tablet, with one of the biggest obstacles being the lack of a keyboard. As technology progresses, look for many of the same programs you’re utilizing on the PC, to evolve into apps.
